Hezekiah Mitchell of Poughkeepsie, police said, was pulled over on State Route 9 at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6 when he was spotted driving erratically by Hyde Park Police officers in his black 2010 Acura.
After the police officer began to speak to Mitchell, police said, he accelerated forward, running over the officer's foot and knocking him to the ground.
About a minute later, police trying to catch up with Mitchell's speeding vehicle reportedly passed a Jeep crashed in the middle of the roadway in front of the Hyde Park Methodist Church — the Jeep's driver, a 25-year-old male -- was uninjured.
Then, police said, they found Mitchell's Acura lodged into the front of the Hyde Park Town Hall building at 4383 Albany Post Road.
Mitchell allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving an injured 24-year-old woman from Poughkeepsie in the wrecked car, who was transported via ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital. She is still being treated there, police said, for non-life-threatening injuries.
With the assistance of New York State Police and K-9 units, Hyde Park police said they tracked down Mitchell at approximately 1:12 a.m. at the Vanderbilt Hotel. According to police, there was an active warrant for his arrest for violating his parole.
Mitchel was brought to the New York Department of Parole after he was treated at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Charges will reportedly be extended after police finish recreating the accident scene.
